PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR

Contour Engineering, LLC (Contour) is a well-established Land Surveying and Civil Engineering firm based in Tacoma and Gig Harbor. We are looking to fill the position of Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)/Project Surveyor for immediate hire for our office in Tacoma, Washington.

Contour Engineering, LLC was formed in 2006 by Brett Allen, P.E. and has become a leading consulting firm specializing in comprehensive land development services throughout Washington state, including civil engineering, land surveying, and land planning services. Contour has since grown to over 30 employees and has expanded into two offices. We offer quality engineering and land surveying services for private and public work-related projects, with Contour and our staff having worked in nearly every jurisdiction in the Puget Sound Region ranging from Bellingham to Vancouver and Aberdeen to Spokane.

About the Position

The Professional Land Surveyor position is meant for a qualified person who is confident in their legal calculations and boundary determination ability. This would include managing small to large projects, research, complex boundary and construction calculations, evaluation of field work, and drafting of projects in a CAD environment. Strong knowledge of writing and deciphering legal descriptions and reviewing title reports is required. Must be able to communicate and outline to staff project needs and required fieldwork to complete project. Must be able to manage time and track budgets as well as manage survey staff and field work associated with construction and boundary projects. This position will work directly with the Principal Land Surveyor, project surveyors, and survey technicians, as well as in-house engineers to accomplish daily tasks. The candidate is responsible for establishing and maintaining a professional working relationship with agencies, clients, and contractors. This is an on-site and in-office position.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Washington State PLS

  • Ability to understand the required work to complete survey tasks in a PLS capacity.

  • Will be responsible for PLS work on Plats, BLA’s, ALTA/ NSPS surveys, as-builts, shoreline boundaries, right-of-way determination, and boundary and topographic projects for design.

  • Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.

  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.

  • Search legal records, survey records, and land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.

  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed.

  • Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.

  • Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents.

  • Manage and mentor junior technicians in all aspects of the survey profession.

  • Understanding of GPS and acceptable accuracy standards.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering and Planning departments for a successful project.

  • Position requires working mostly forty-hour weeks with occasional overtime or weekend projects.

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test if requested and have a clean driving record

  • Valid Washington Driver's License
